FP inspired this. I make a strong case for the 1934 Mercedes W25 Hillclimb special. The reason is, well, listen to it. It sounds like God making sweet love to one of Zeus’ lightning bolts.
Now what is your option for scariest engine?

Ninja H2R: Because outrunning a Bugatti or keeping up with a 1300hp GT-R...but on a bike.
Runner up: Honda CB X...I mean, it sounds like an old Formula 1 car! Action happens at the 1:50+ minute mark.

I figure somebody else might mention Brutus because of top gear, so I nominate t he 1500hp, 42L, 2,600 cu in V12 in the Packard- Bentley Mavis Special. Unlike those made from tank or aircraft engines, t he engine in the Mavis is from a WWII era PT boat. It has 2,000 lb/ft of torque and i t looks like it could literally set itself on fire. I love it.

the Detroit Diesel 8V-71 or -92 in a fire engine. ‘cos when you hear that roar, it means something bad happened somewhere.

I was at the Goodwood FOS about 15 years ago and the had some of the old Auto Unions there. I was standing right next to one when they fired it up. I was at once amazed and terrified. It was fantastic.

It sounds dumb, but my FR-S scared the hell out of me.
In a slow car, you drive slow because there’s no choice. In a fast car, you either exercise restraint or crash . So in practice, the fastest car is somewhere in the middle, and the FR-S resides basically on top of that bell curve. Now, because the driveline lash is so violent you have to hold the throttle wide open in order to drive even slightly smoothly, and the torque dip so violent that you have to keep it above 4800 (or between 2400-4800, or below 2400) to have any hope of not unloading the motor mount.
So, you have to (a) floor it, and (b) not shift until redline, in a car that’s not exactly slow. I sold it when I noticed I was hitting 90+ on my 5-mile commute to work.
